A touching moment from my trip to Sao Joao, the first time a team had been
there. As we were getting ready to leave, I saw a man in a boat next to
ours, with his new reading glasses on, reading his new Bible. My heart
melted and I was reminded why we were there.

I was able to develop a relationship with a 16 year old guy named Wilson. We played soccer, I gave him a hat and we played Frisbee together. All this led up to when I was able to share Christ with him with the help of Pastor Elmer and he accepted Christ.

I was standing near an elderly man who had just seen the Jesus film. At Pastor Joao Wilson’s invitation afterwards he raised his hand, but did not want to go up front. Through a translator, I told him I would go with him. He hugged me and we went forward for prayer.

I love the memory of a 49 year old grandmother whose granddaughter was very ill last year. She received care through Amazon Outreach and was sent on to a hospital. This delightful Christian lady had been praying for us and our ministry. I had the chance to tell her of the fruit of her prayers and I prayed to urge her on in her faith.

Experiencing the week with my son was a joy and a privilege!

Last year when we visited Parintins, we left them about 70 evangecubes.
The pastors, Elmer & Chad, trained their congregation with these. This year in Parintins,
two girls (about 12 years old) asked to see my evangecube. I opened it &
turned it from picture to picture, but I could not explain the story in
Portuguese to them. To my surprise, one of the girls began telling the story
to the other girl. I left my evangecube with her, knowing it would be put
to good use. It is so awesome to see God working and to see His church
growing.

By far my most memorable moment was the Brazilian doctor expressing his awe and appreciation for “these Americans” coming to the “the end of the world” to love his people and how God used that to soften his own heart. It was so evident how the Holy Spirit was working and moving in his heart!

The grown men, each hard, weathered and worn down by their incredibly difficult lives, are the most moving to me. By their acceptance of God’s gift of salvation, they become empowered to lead their families and villages as they are instructed to do. How can you not be inspired?

The most memorable part of the trip was the “fire” exemplified by the translators. They were unbelievable people and on fire for the Lord.. They were polite, humble, funny, fun, helpful, etc., etc., etc.

I will remember the Brazilian young lady who matched my stride coming down the hill as we were about to embark. She slowly began singing “Hallelujah” and wanted me to join. How did I know? I just knew. Her eyes filled with tears. She was overwhelmed by having accepted Christ!

The most memorable was Josef Anderson waving to me from the shoreline as we left. He pointed to the sky and then to his heart to indicate he had Jesus living in his heart.

Because Chad (local missionary) modeled boldness in evangelism, I was able to step out in faith and share a parable with several large groups of people and even offer a prayer and invitation to the crowd! This is a major breakthrough for me! God showed me that on my own strength, I can do nothing. But by HIS power, He can do great things through me. I just need to offer my life and gifts for His purpose!

Our experience with Amazon Outreach has been an amazing life changing experience for our family!
About four years ago, when we were first interested in going on a mission trip, we went to a “missions dinner” one night at our old church in Flower Mound, Texas. John Little showed us his pictures and shared information about his trips with Amazon Outreach. Of all the organizations presenting information that evening, Ron was drawn to Amazon Outreach. While the rest of the family was not to thrilled with the prospect of our first mission trip being in HOT temperatures with bugs, snakes and the like, we all started praying about the trip and put it in God’s hands.
For all four of us to go to the Amazon it seemed financially overwhelming. But in just a few months, God opened the door for all four of us to go and serve. It was awesome to see God working in our lives in new ways that we had never really experienced before. We were so humbled by the support we received from friends and family! This was a new experience for us, and it was amazing to see God work in this way in our lives.
We went to the Amazon with a group John Little had organized. Our family went with a plan and expectations – which God immediately changed to His plan. God showed himself faithful in growing and stretching us in many new ways – ways we weren’t expecting. Mainly He showed us that it would be Him that accomplishes everything, not us, and apart from Him our plan and expectations were empty and our priorities misguided.
On our first trip, we met a young boy (Carlos) in the first village we visited who was about the same age as our two kids. Because of complications in his family, he ended up spending the week on the boat with our group. God knew he could use our children (the only children on the boat that week) with Carlos and a lasting relationship has resulted. We have seen Carlos every summer since and have spent 1-2 weeks with him each time. We are prayerfully considering bringing him to the U.S. for a short (or possibly long) term visit. Please pray for us that God will reveal His plan for Carlos and us.
Our lives were changed on that first trip. The way we think, our priorities, how we behave, how we treat one another…..all changed. God revealed Himself and His plan for us on that trip.
We are all so happy that we listened to Him and went on that first mission trip. Our family is (spiritually) in a different place now because we have shared this experience together and grown.
This mission trip with Amazon Outreach has changed our perspective of what is important in life, it has shown us the blessing of serving others, and how very thankful we need to be for what God has provided. Each time we go we are blessed by the fellowship of the Brazilians on the boat and their love for God - what an inspiration!
Be courageously faithful and serve the Lord!
